The £100 million billing system that was almost not implemented.

We were horrified that a system that had thoroughly been tested, was working 48 hours ago, was now undergoing the final stages of User Acceptance Testing and all of a sudden was unable to produce a bill correctly.

What is the use of a billing system that can’t produce a bill?

We started a thorough investigation as to what had changed, was it test environment (software test bed) related, was it in the code? Was it the hardware? Was it the database? What had changed..............?

The project was a regulatory requirement. How can a major implementation that was already delayed by months and cost so much, stall again?
